The Chairman, Senator Committee on Finance and lawmaker representing Lagos West Senatorial District in collaboration with Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, has released educational materials to pupils and students within his Senatorial District.

The event, which attracted pupils, students and their teachers from across the 28 Local Councils in Lagos West, took place on Friday 15th October, 2021, at Vantage Point, Acme Road, Ikeja area of Lagos.

The programme commenced with prayers and the National Anthem followed by brief remarks by the DG of Senator Adeola’s Liaison Office, BIQ Raji Bello, and introduction of the dignitaries present.

The TGPS of Education District 6 of Lagos State, Mrs. Okelola Oludara Oyebisi, in her remarks, commended Distinguished Senator Adeola for his strides in building the capacity of his constituents and sponsoring the provision of educational materials to pupils and students in Lagos West. She assured that the benefitting schools, pupils and students will make maximum use of the materials provided.

While highlighting the importance of the exercise to the educational sector in Lagos State, Chairman of the NUT, Comrade Akintoye Hassan, explained that all over Nigeria what is obtainable is tuition free education and not free education. He heaped praises on Senator Adeola for investing in the lives of his constituents. He equally used the opportunity the occasion provided to ask the Distinguished lawmaker to equally look into the welfare of the teachers with a view to lifting the standard by sponsorship of programmes like he had done to the pupils and students.

The Provost of Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, ably represented by Pastor Daniel Okeze, in his brief remarks, also commended Senator Adeola for collaborating with the institution. He said it took the passion and commitment of Distinguished lawmaker towards ameliorating the plight of his constituents to make the programme possible.

The Chief Host, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi, while giving reasons for facilitating the exercise, said he is a product of public schools in Lagos West and found it worthwhile to give back to the system that made him who and what he is today. He stressed the importance of English and Mathematics in every career and what made him focus more on them.

The Distinguished Senator highlighted how lack of text books affected many students while growing up; many students had to leave home early in order to borrow from others to do their class assignments or read up topics already discussed by teachers. With the materials provided, he said succour had come the way of some parents and students alike.

Senator Adeola hinted that in this Phase 1 of the exercise, he is giving out 15,000 text books to 97 Senior Secondary schools, 97 Junior Secondary schools and 200 Primary schools. He also said that the second phase of the exercise will be coming up in few weeks with the same target to reach 97 Senior Secondary schools, 97 Junior Secondary schools and 200 Primary schools.

In the days ahead, the respected lawmaker said he is embarking on construction of 10 new schools in the Senatorial District. Each of the schools will have 6 classrooms, 2 staff rooms, 6 toilets and a borehole.

While still speaking, in response to the request made by the Lagos NUT Chairman, Senator Solomon Adeola donated a 16-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the teachers for ease of movement. He commended the effort of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in the education sector and said efforts like the exercise he embarked on are to compliment the strides of the Lagos State Government.

The Senator also disclosed that he is organising a computer training programme for graduates in the Lagos West Senatorial District culminating with a Microsoft certification.

Visibly elated pupils and students, who spoke to our correspondent, appreciated Distinguished Senator Adeola for lifting burdens off the shoulders of their parents with the provision of the educational materials. They asked God to bless and continue to lift the lawmaker to greater heights.

The teachers, who came with the pupils and students, also expressed their appreciation to the lawmaker for the gesture while saying they were looking forward to more largesse being extended to them.

High point of the event was the handover of the educational materials consisting text books, exercise books, school bags, mathematics sets, writing boards and other materials by Senator Adeola ably assisted by the dignitaries and the DG of his liaison office.
