Team Lagos won their first gold of the 6th National Youth Games taking place in Ilorin, Kwara State, north-central Nigeria on Friday.
The gold was won by Florence Olarinoye, who snatched the medal in -47kg. Olarinoye’s victory on Friday opened the doors for other successful outings for some of the athletes participating in the U-15 National Youth Games holding at the Permanent Site of the University of Ilorin, as it was announced that Akorede Dolapo had a silver medal outing in Karate 47kg.
As of the time of filing this report, Team Lagos are also having an impressive showing in the swimming events taking place at the Ilorin Township Stadium. In the morning session, The young athletes have already swum their ways to the medal zone.
Team Lagos are expecting medals from Otunola Kolade, Oti Immaculate who took part in 50m breaststroke. Adekola Samuel (50m breaststroke), Kanu Choma and Adeokla Ayomide participated in 50m freestyle.
The results of their events would be announced before the close of the day.
Meanwhile, Team Lagos women football to play their first match against Delta Team on Saturday by 9 am at the Maracana football pitch of the University of Ilorin.
