The chairman Senate Committee of Appropriations and senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, has expressed great sadness and regrets on the demise of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona yesterday at the age of 91 after reigning for 65 years, saying the death is a colossal loss of a glorious reign.

In a condolence message to the revered royal father’s immediate family, the people of Ijebuland and indeed the people of Ogun State, Senator Adeola eulogized Awujale as a principled monarch who contributed immensely to the socio-economic, cultural and political development of not only Ijebuland and Ogun State but the Nigeria nation adding that his irreparable loss is a monumental one that will be felt for years and decades to come.

“I received the news of the transition of the revered Awujale, Oba Adetona, Ogbagba 11 with shock and sadness. On my close encounters with him in his palace, he came out boldly as a royal father that brooks no injustice in whatever guise confirming a national reputation as a principled monarch that fought against military dictatorship and all forms of injustice during his reign. He was a development oriented royal father that promoted economic growth of his people and Ogun State” the senator stated.

Senator Adeola stated that the long reign of Awujale was a blessing to the people of Ijebuland in the area of socio-cultural renaissance associated with the now famous and global Ojude Oba annual cultural festival that promotes Yoruba and African culture adding that Oba Adetona reign is a model for all Obas to emulate in terms of using royal authority and acumen to develop society and advance the common good of the people.

The senator prayed to God Almighty to grant members of the immediate family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of a beloved monarch and for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed royal father.
