Tenant Chases Away Landlord Over Three-Year Rent

A landlord, Ezegbo Chinazo has been reportedly assaulted and chased out from his house for demanding three-year rent owed by his tenant, Obinna Onugbu.

The incident happened at Oke-Ifa street in Bucknor Estate, Ejigbo, Lagos.

Anambra State-born landlord, P.M.EXPRESS gathered was forced to relocate elsewhere over the threat by Onugbu and then went to the police to report of his predicament.

The police has equally arrested Onugbu and charged him before a Lagos  court with conduct likely to cause breach of peace and assault on  the landlord.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that trouble started after Onugbu rent elapsed and his business suffered a setback which unable him to pay his rent which has accumulated for three years.

Imo State-born Onugbu then blamed his predicament, especially his collapsed business, on the house which he moved into with his family.

According to him, he had started planning to leave the apartment as he was waiting to raise enough money to rent another accommodation before the landlord came and started demanding for those arrears.

This led to an altercation with Onuegbu reportedly descended on the landlord and attacked him,

He was said to have chased him and warned him not to come to the house anymore.

According to the landlord, Onuegbu threatened to deal with him if he returned to the house, talk less of demanding arrears of rent he was owing.

He went to the Police and reported what happened and Onuegbu was arrested and charged to court.

He was arraigned before Magistrates court sitting in ejigbo over the alleged offence he committed.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 20 June 2017.
