Wazbak International Sports Academy recently gave a good account of themselves after defeating Melody Football Club of Iwaya 3-1 in the penalty shootout after one goal apiece at the regulation time to win 2021/22 Lagos Divisional Football League held recently at the Railway Institute football playground, Yaba, Lagos.

Wazbak came from behind to score the equaliser through Ibrahim Ahmad in the 38th minutes to end the first half one goal apiece.

The second half was more interesting as both teams created some scoring chances which failed to convert before it went to penalties.

Wazbak Coach, Adeniyi Wasiu expressed joy that his team emerged the LDFA champions and congratulated his players for the job well done.

“We came to the league with low profile but today we were crowned as champions against all odd.We were not favourite for the league title when the league started but today we shamed our critics and bookmakers that we are not a pushover.

“I dedicate this victory to the players, coaching crew and our fans who give us their support throughout the league and we promise to represent the division well in the forthcoming Ekofootball league and possibly reach the final,”he said.

Team manager of Melody, Ibrahim Owolabi said it was a good match but blamed center refree for disallowing their goal which demoralized his players in the encounter.

“It was a tough game for both teams. This is how final should be but i am not happy that our goal was disallowed which really affected our performance.Secondly we were unlucky in the penalties and we would go back home and prepare for other competitions,”,he said.

Chairman Lagos Divisional Football Association Akintunde Tinubu however expressed gratitude to God for the success of the league saying that both teams played well but better side won the game.

He also thanked the board members of LDFA, officials and media for their support given the league to record a huge success and promised better league in the next edition.
