Did His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma make a mistake in appointing Dr. Fabian Ihekweme into his cabinet? Is the Ministry of Foreign/International Affairs, a portfolio assigned to Dr. Ihekweme bigger than he can handle? Time to find out, come along.
Since the inception of this administration, the German trained *Omu*, as he is fondly called, have enjoyed favourable media space, making him the most talked about commissioner in the Shared Prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The Commissioner also have had some tongue lashing moments by a minority few who felt he was being over hyped for actually doing nothing and was eagerly waiting to celebrate his fall from Grace to grass.
They first started by questioning why the governor should create for the first time in the state, the ministry of foreign / international affairs as if he was competing with the Federal government.
To make themselves feel good, they began to celebrate that the ministry is inconsequential and Dr. Ihekweme was drafted there because the governor didn’t know what to do with him and therefore posted him to where nothing will be happening.
With the Convid – 19 pandemic ravaging the entire globe, drastically affecting the world economy and reduced the chances of foreign investors visiting the state, those in opposition went to town telling those who care to listen that Dr. Ihekweme and his ministry is dead on arrival.
When some of us who are in the spirit, told them to be patient and wait, they descended on us and called us names, because we knew better, we remained calm and kept praying to God to fulfil His purpose.
Have we been vindicated? Now hear this.
All of a sudden, they are sad, out of the media space and are almost dumb because Dr. Fabian Ihekweme has completely disappointed them, not just in one way, but in several ways.
First, Dr. Ihekweme has and is still proving that Governor Hope Uzodinma did not make a mistake in appointing him to such a sensitive office because foreign investors are showing high level of interest to invest in the state.
The Government and people of India, Kuwait, Canada, Sweden and a few other countries had successfully held meetings with Amb. Fabian Ihekweme PhD, through their ambassadors, while a few have visited the state for establishment of a Science and Technology Hub, promote local capacity in ICT, business innovation incubators, agriculture, housing, water resources etc.
This laudable step when fully actualized will bring about infrastructural development, reactivate the entrepreneurial spirit in all of us and provide quality jobs for the citizens.
Secondly, when he started the quiz competition to empower Imolities with cash donations on weekly basis, they said he cannot sustain it. To their disappointment, just yesterday, another batch of winners was handsomely rewarded by Dr. Ihekweme.
When they said none have felt the impact of Dr. Fabian Ihekweme’s position as a commissioner, they were shocked and disappointed to realize that more than 53 youths are directly drawing stipends from his office on a monthly basis. Those involved came out to testify and the negative minded opposition members had no option but to retreat to their shell.
Furthermore, when he insisted that his focus is on discharging assignments entrusted on him by the governor with no interest in contesting the senatorial by-election in Imo North, even though some good spirited citizens wanted him to throw his hat in the ring, they thought otherwise, at last, he disappointed them by sticking to his words.
Few weeks ago, a section of the media went to press that Dr. Ihekweme was at loggerheads with his sister and colleague in the Shared Prosperity Government, Dr. Lady Love Ineh. The opposition started jumping up in jubilation anticipating fight to finish between the two.
Dr. Fabian Ihekweme remained cool, did not argue in favour or against the story but bided his time and it came. To the utmost dismay and disappointment of the negative minded people, Dr. Ihekweme and Dr. Ineh were seen two days ago holding hands and discussing as a brother and sister should.
Unfortunately, for those who expect perfection from others, their whole life will be a series of disappointments, grumblings and complaints. Too many people miss the silver lining because they’re expecting gold, as was observed by Maurice Seitter.
The good news is that *Dr. Fabian Ihekweme*, Omu De Great, will still disappoint them more by remaining positive, keeping his eyes on the finish line, to make God, the governor and Imolities proud at the end of his tour of duty.
