CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 38-year old housewife, Mrs. Akinlade Olawumi, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly biting off and swallowing her neighbour’s flesh during public fight over N2,000 debt.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oluwalobawase Street in Ejigbo area of Lagos, where they reside.
The victim, Mrs. Akinyemi Titilayo, suffered her fate when she engaged Olawumi in a public fight in their area over her inability to settle her after engaging her in cooking service. The victim hails from Ogun State and was married with children while the suspect was also married, had children and knew each other before the incident happened.
According to Mrs. Olawumi, the victim had a party and engaged her services to cook for N2,000. She said that she rendered the service and after the party she went to demand for payment. She explained that the victim, Titilayo, attacked her first and in self defence she held her hand, bit off her flesh and swallowed it. She said she did not know when she swallowed her flesh during the scuffle. The victim was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to a hospital where she was being treated over the injury.
The matter was reported to Ejigbo police station and Olawumi was arrested. After interrogation, the police found her culpable and charged her before Ejigbo Magistrates Court for assault.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court to give a date for hearing so that the police will prove the case.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T. O. Shomade, granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The defendant, Olawumi, was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 24th June, 2019.
