A Social Critic and Human Rights advocate, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has made a passionate appeal to governments and legislators at different levels to enact laws that will promote and enhance gender equality in the country.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ezekwueme made the remarks in a public lecture he delivered to mark 2021 International Women’s Day with the theme ‘Women Bastion of Love, Peace and Unity’.

He said, “It will interest you to note that women are endowed with unique potentials, creativity and rare innovations and conducive atmosphere should be provided for them to enable them harness and utilize them for national interest, progress and prosperity”.

“They possess enormous responsibility to contribute immensely toward socioeconomic and political growth of our country.

Pertinently, they are stabilisers, peace makers and sources of Peace, love and joy, which they will utilise for the benefit of our dear country.”

“For a man to be successful there must be virtuous woman behind him. Let virtuous women be behind leadership in our country through active participation in politics.

I commend the Supreme Court for its land mark judgment that gave rights of inheritance of husband and father’s properties to womenfolk.”

“Significantly, there is urgent need to give more political opportunity to womenfolk to enable them exhibit their full potentials and creativity. They should utilise their closeness to their children, influence on their husband and respect they command from larger society to help transform the country for better and work assiduously toward eliminating social ills.”

“As the central theme is Choose to Challenge, Nigeria women should more ever before challenge all impediment towards emancipation of women from segregation and gender discrimination.

It will be a step in the right direction to use this year’s International Women Day to intensify efforts toward the fight against violence against women, child abuses, rape, sex for mark and human trafficking. Women are supposed to be harbingers of peace, justice, truth, equality and equity. They at all times tell their husband in politics what they should know and do for the betterment of the country.”

“It is noteworthy that virtuous woman precipitates virtuous family, society and country. I appeal to Nigeria women to always love, respect and honour their husbands, whereas husband must love, care, share pains, sorrows and sufferings of their wives as greatest gift to womenfolk in commemoration of 2021 International Women’s Day” Ezekwueme posited.
