Residents Robbers Carts Away Cables, Throws Community In Darkness

Armed robbers suspected to be living among the residents of Ijegamo community in the outskirt of Lagos have thrown the area into darkness after they disconnected their transformer cable wires and stole them.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the residents have being living without electricity supply for several months as both the suspects and other residents cannot explain how robbers came in the night and stole them.

Our correspondent learnt that the residents levied themselves to contribute the money they used to buy the cables to install for stable power supply in the area.

However, it turned out that among the contributors were the actual suspects that went in the night and stole the cables and sold them.

It was gathered that the residents who expressed shock over the theft later discovered that the theft was committed by an insider.

Two of the suspects, Gbenga Oloyede, 43 and Jelili Abass have been arrested in connection with the missing cables and handed over to the police at Isheri Oshun division.

The theft occurred at Agagun Kusinmi street in Ijagemo where the cables were installed by the community development association.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspects confessed to the police and implicated some other suspects who were involved in the alleged theft.

The suspects have since been charged before Isolo Magistrates court with conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal code.

While the other accomplice were said to have fled and were on the run.

The prosecutor, Mr Oje Uagbale did not object to their bail condition but told the court to grant the suspects bail so that they will attend trials in the interest of justice.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogbe granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 28 July 2017.
