Team Lagos Retains 2nd Position At 5th National Youth Games

Lagos State youthful team came second overall in the just concluded 5th National Youth Games hosted at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, north central Nigeria.
Team Lagos won a total of 72 medals; 22 gold, 36 silver and 14 bronze, trailing Team Delta that came first with 41 gold, 32 silver and 31 bronze medals, while Team Bayelsa was third with 17 gold, 6 silver and 22 bronze.
The organisers of the NYG also adjudged Team Lagos as the Best Team in the March Past and was given an award of commendation.

Team Lagos, known for its tradition, paraded mostly athletes in their younger ages with the prospect of attending more NYG in the future. The NYG was primarily designed for U-15 athletes as a talent hunt and discovery championship.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Swimming and Chess produced 5 gold medals each for Team Lagos with 3 coming from Gymnastics. Squash, Tennis, Football hauled 2 gold medals each, while one gold medal each was won from Taekwondo, Scrabble and Badminton.
Out of 32 sports competed for at the just concluded NYG, five sports failed to produced medals. They are Para Table Tennis, Volleyball (Beach), Weightlifting, Dart and Rugby.
