A senior police officer – the Area Commander, Zone D Mushin, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Akinbayo Olasoji may have sent a strong signal to those who may want to corrupt police officer by arresting two men who attempted to bribe him with N14, 000 to compromise in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two suspects, Gambo Idris and Isiaka Awede went to ACP Olasoji with the money kept inside an envelop in order for him to allow them to continue to run an event centre where hoodlums used to assemble to commit crimes in Idi Araba area of Mushin in Lagos.
It was gathered that when they came Olasonji asked them what was inside the envelope and they said that it was money. He immediately ordered for their arrest and subsequent prosecution for offering him bribe.
The suspects were charged before a Lagos court sitting at Isolo for the alleged offence.
They pleaded not guilty.
Thus, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Adedayo granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momah did not opposed their bail condition.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that the viewing centre had been notorious and served as haven where drug dealers, users and other criminal elements gather to commit various crimes. It was learnt that the police was fully aware of that and ordered the closure of the centre.
It was when the police had shut the place that the defendants went to the Command to bribe him in order to reverse the decision which landed them in trouble.
