How 2 Widows Stole Another Woman’s Child, Sold Her To Barren Woman

Two widows,  based in Onitsha, Anambra State, have confessed and explained their roles in the sale of three years old stolen girl whom they sold for N500, 000 to a barren woman in Onitsha.

The women were among the 25 suspected criminals paraded by the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, at Ikeja Command, Lagos.

The initiators of the deal, Rita Eze, 50, and Ugochi Nweke, 60, contacted a 27-year-old woman, Elizabeth Ekong to steal her madam’s girl for a sum of N60,000.

However, the transaction leaked and the police arrested Ekong who named the two suspects while her boyfriend, one of the accomplices escaped .

Narrating what happened Eze said she was contacted by her sister, Ugochi that a woman, who was barren, needed a child and she had to contact one Samuel, who is Ekong’s boyfriend, who convinced her to steal her madam’s three-year-old daughter.

Eze disclosed that she did not know that the girl was stolen. When she brought the girl from Badagry, she handed her over to her sister,Ugochi who collected N500,000 from the buyer.

According to Eze, she and her sister are from Awka town,but currently residing in Onitsha in Anambra State.

She said when the illegal transaction was exposed, they brought the stolen girl and handed her over to the police at SARS in Ikeja.

Ekong told journalists that Samuel, her boyfriend convinced her to steal her Madam’s daughter where she is an apprentice. She said she made a total sum of N60,000 from the deal.

According to her, she did not know that they sold the girl up to N500,000 only for them to give her small amount of money.

She said it was when she was arrested that she knew the girl was sold as high as N500,000.

Ugochi in her confession said that it was her compassion for the barren woman that prompted her to look for a baby for her.

She said when they brought the girl, she handed the girl to the buyer and did not collect any money from her.

While they were paraded, the Lagos Commissioner of Police said it was part of police’s effort to reduce crime in the state that led to the arrest of the suspects.

He said the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
