Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the former First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano, has appealed to the leaderships of the Traditional Council of Ndichie/Ogbuefi, and Ogbunike Progress Union, OPU, for their support.

Ebelechukwu made the appeal when she visited the President of Ndichie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike, Chief Nwafor Onyezia, at his residence on Saturday in Azu, Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The aspirant assured the select members of Ndichie/Ogbuefi that ndi Ogbunike would all be carried along as she moves to clinch APGA Senatorial ticket, and unseat the incumbent, Princess Adaeze Stella Oduah, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state.

She said, “Please, I’m your daughter. l came here to seek your support for the actualization of my Senatorial ambition. I want you to know that Ogbunike is so dear to my heart. When we win, our future is bright”.

“Let us come together as a family. Let’s work together. I promise, everybody will be carried along. I need your support in this journey. I promise to do greater things, more than what I did for our people as the First Lady.’’

While assuring that she had more than enough capacity to win the elections, Ebelechukwu appealed to all, who feel offended, to forgive her adding that all her actions were done in the interest of the town.

On his part, Chief Onyezia thanked her for coming home to inform her people about her Senatorial ambition. He said Ebelechukwu has been assessed by ndi Ogbunike, as intelligent, trustworthy and forward looking candidate to take Anambra North Senatorial Zone to its buoyant destination.

“We know that with Osodieme’s pedigree in political administration, our town will benefit immensely. We wish you a successful outing. You are Ada Ogbunike, we welcome you, and charge you to go ahead, and make us proud. God be with you” Chief Onyezia said.

Meanwhile, at the residence of Chief Nnamdi Nwadiogbu, the Oyi Local Government Area Chairman, the Exco members of Ogbunike Progress Union led by Comr Ikegulu Chukwugozie, on their part, threw weight behind the former First Lady, whom they described as Godsent to ndi Anambra. They prayed and wished her victory at the forthcoming polls.

It is not a hidden fact that Ebelechukwu Obiano has informed many of the leaders that she is seeking an election for the Senate. While many believe the former First Lady has a constitutional right to aspire for any political offices in Nigeria, some people are however, worried given her role in the past government.

In an interview, Dr. Harris Chuma-Odili a.k.a Ogene Igbo, a member of Ndichie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike, said he is happy to welcome home the former First Lady after eight years in office as wife of the Governor of Anambra State. Dr. Chuma-Odili urged the former First Lady to take the growth and development of Ogbunike as a priority, if she gets to the Senate.

“Well, I’m happy that Osodieme has returned to Ogbunike, and seeking our support to actualise her Senatorial ambition. She’s our dear sister, she is welcome home. Let me remind her that there’s an urgent need to fix the dilapidated roads stretching from building materials market, Azu-Ogbunike, through Amawa and terminating at Afo Osile-Ogbunike. The roads are in terrible shape and requires urgent attention. There is still a lot of work to be done for Ogbunike. I pray that you will support Ndichie /Ogbuefi Ogbunike to complete the ongoing hall building project. Welcome back Osodieme” Dr. Chuma-Odili said.
