5th Lagos Kids Mini Marathon: Participants Encouraged To Embrace Active Lifestyle

The 5th edition of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon was held on Saturday as the race organisers promote sports development through School based Competition.

The Lagos Kids Mini Marathon, an initiative of St Saviour’s School Ikoyi Endowment Fund was organized by Road Warriors Running Club in collaboration with Banana Island Residents Association, supported by the Lagos state sports commission.

With the theme, “Active Kids Rock”, Nigeria’s first and only kids-focused Mini Marathon encourage and inspire children between the ages of 5 to 15 to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Over 1,000 children from different schools across the state participated in the Mini Marathon which was decided in three categories; the 1.5 Kilometres for 5-8 years, 3 Kilometres for 9-12 years and 5Km for 13-15 years as well as the 1Km Walkathon for younger kids along with their parents.

Children from diverse backgrounds participated in the race, through their participation in the event, the kids had fun competing with their contemporaries while bonding and making new friends along the way.

Chairperson, Lagos Kids Mini Marathon, Enitan Rewane lauded the support of stakeholders toward the success of the event while assuring that the race will be bigger and better next year with more kids participating.

Representative of the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Director, Schools Sports, Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, commended organizers of the Mini Marathon for giving indigent kids the opportunity to take part in the race, stating that participants drawn from public schools in some of the education districts were supported by the commission to experience the event.

Winners in all three categories were presented with trophies and cash rewards, all participants received medals for participating in the mini marathon.
