70 Years Of Devotion And Service To God, Mankind And The Church: Celebrating Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke’s Birthday

On November 23, 2023, Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke, the Chief Shepherd and Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, celebrated his 70th birthday with a group of distinguished guests, including Professor Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, Chairman and Founder United Nigeria Airline, and various lay faithfuls, Bishops, clergies, friends, and well-wishers. 

The celebration took place at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity and marked the end of a series of activities to honour Archbishop Okeke.

Archbishop Okeke was born in Umudioka in Dunukofia Local Government Area in 1953 and was ordained a priest in 1981. In 2002, he was consecrated as an Archbishop and has since devoted his life to serving God, mankind, and the Church. The celebration of Archbishop Okeke’s 70th birthday is a testament to his unrelenting dedication to his faith.

During the con-celebration, Professor Okonkwo praised Archbishop Okeke’s contributions to the church and society. He commended the Archbishop’s devotion to serving God and highlighted his many accomplishments, including his advocacy for educational development and his role in redefining the church and clergy’s relevance in the pursuit of a more equitable society.

Professor Okonkwo noted that Archbishop Okeke has much to be thankful for, including good health and the opportunity to serve God and humanity. The birthday celebration was significant not only because of the Archbishop’s 70th birthday but also because it marked the 42nd anniversary of his ordination as a priest and the 21st anniversary of his consecration as a bishop.

Archbishop Okeke’s leadership has been instrumental in the growth and development of the Onitsha Archdiocese. He is a visionary leader, who has overseen significant progress in pastoral, liturgical, healthcare, educational, infrastructural, and spiritual aspects. His unwavering commitment to his faith and the community is a source of inspiration for many, and he remains a cornerstone of support and guidance for the faithful.

In closing, Professor Okonkwo offered prayers for Archbishop Okeke’s continued protection, sustenance, and strength to lead God’s flock. The celebration of Archbishop Okeke’s 70th birthday is a celebration of his life, work, and legacy, and a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving God and his people.
