MICHAEL AKINOLA

A sex scandal may rock the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, after being linked with invasion of a hotel as was captured by CCTV camera while allegedly watching a woman’s nakedness in the hotel room during operation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the popular Final Word Hotel and Bar located at 45/46 Amikanle Road, Kebe Bus Stop off AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos State.
Following the alleged misconduct, a Lagos Lawyer and Human Right activist, Barrister Adejumo Omobolaji Jubril, has filed a suit before the Federal High Court, Lagos, asking the Court to order for investigation over the alleged invasion and detention of the manager of the hotel, Fasasi Abdulazeez and the bar man, Adekunle Pelumi, in EFCC custody, whose suit was filed on their behalf.
Joined in the suit with number, FHC/40/312/2021 are the Chairman of EFCC, Zonal Head, Lagos EFCC and the OC Cybe Crime Section, Team D, EFCC Lagos Zone.
The applicants are seeking for the order of the Court to direct the respondents to produce the defendants, who were detained in their custody since 29th September, 2021, to be brought before the Court within 24 hours, to direct the respondents to disclose by affidavit the cogent and verifiable reasons for the arrest and subsequent detention of the applicants. That the Court ordering an inquiry into the circumstances constituting the grounds for the arrest and detention of the applicants. An order of the Court to admit the applicants on bail or unconditional release of the applicants from EFCC custody.
The suit was supported with affidavit of the originating application by Adejumo Omobolaji Jubril with the consent of the applicants.
He stated that applicants are the manager and bar man of the hotel duly accredited with the relevant agencies to carry out hospitality business. They were on duty on Wednesday 29th September, 2021, when the operatives of EFCC stormed the hotel in a gestapo manner and ordered them to open all the hotel rooms, that they wanted to search for lodgers in the hotel without giving the particulars of anyone they were looking for.
The manager informed them that they have only two lodgers in their rooms. He identified them and the rooms they occupied; the officers conducted themselves in a manner befitting an armed occupation. The two guests in the hotel were arrested without warrants or informed the reason for their arrest.
He further stated that the operatives busted the rooms without care to the privacy of the occupants. And in one of the rooms, they met a naked female guest, who pleaded with them to allow her to wear her clothes and she had to put on her pant under their gazing eyes.
That all the male operatives refused to obliged her and were in fact watching her. All their actions were captured on CCTV camera mounted in the hotel.
It stated that on 30th September, 2021, when Adejumo went to EFCC office at Okotie Eboh, Ikoyi, Lagos, at the Cyber Crime Section Team D, to discuss the bail terms and to know the reason for the arrest, no reason was given before they were given most onerous bail conditions of providing two sureties of which one must be a grade 14 level Civil Servant and another surety must have landed property with C of O, who must deposit it with them. And that the conditions of the bail cannot be varied.
The curious part about the whole thing is that within the premises of the EFCC, touts were seen there offering surety services to detainees, their families for a fee ranging from N300,000 and above, which was brought to the attention of OC, Cybe Crimes, who just shrugged it off as it was a normal occurance.
The lawyer asked in the interest of justice for the Honourable Court to order an inquiry into the circumstances constituting ground for the arrest of the applicants.
