And so for the umpteenth time, I went to a boutique very close to where I live, to check if they had jeans that could fit. After some fruitless search, the attendants could not find something that fits well. One of them suggested I try a particular boutique that only stocks clothings for the big and tall, since I was taller than everything they had. She gave me the name of the boutique, I googled their location and decided to go see what they had.

Boldly written in front of the boutique was “Mr big and tall menswear”. Alas I said in my mind, finally, here I could see something that fits well. I walked into the boutique with a swag. The attendant saw me come in and continued with what he was doing. I walked up to him and told him I wanted to check for some jeans. Without mincing words, he told me that they don’t have anything that would size me, that am small for the clothings they have in stock.

I had to look back to be sure I was the one he was referring to. Me small Kwa? “Ehmm excuse me, please what exactly do you mean? I found myself asking. “The clothings we have here are for the very tall and very big men”, he reiterated, and continued with what he was doing.

In my mind I was like, this guy can’t be serious. “Please can I see the jeans you have, I insisted. He reluctantly left what he was doing and led me to the section where the jeans were stocked. Then he brought out some of the smallest sizes they have in stock for me to take a look. My people, when I held those jeans against my waist ehh, it was as if a five year old was trying out jeans meant for a twelve year old. Hehehehehe. Never in my life had I seen jeans so big and lengthy. Okay, I went over to check some t-shirts, same thing. All I could see were very big shirts that could pass for parachutes. Hehehehehe. In fact it was as if those guys were not selling clothings for humans, everything I saw in that boutique were only going to fit some aliens.

At that point I could sense the attendant murmuring under his breath, “but I told you”. I ended up buying only stockings from that boutique. Even the stockings sef were like panty hose. Hehehehehe. I was humbled. This oyibo people can be big ooo.

Life indeed is all about levels. You might be the champion in your local Church choir, but might not be selected to sing when you go to the Cathedral, figuratively speaking. Always stay humble.
