Atayero, Takyun Commend IGP Badminton Tourney

DCP Atayero, Force Director of Sports and Chairman, Nigerian Police Badminton Association, Justin Takyun have commended the standard of the just concluded Inspector General of Police Badminton tournament.


The three days IGP Badminton tourney which was organized by The Nigerian Police Badminton Association was to discover new talents in the game of badminton and foster unity among the officers and inter security agencies that participated in the tournament.

Atayero in a chat with Journalists said the inaugural edition of IGP Badminton tourney had lived up to expectations and commended the finalists for the job well done. He said this year’s edition did not live up to expectations but noted that the organization of the tournament was superb.

“I am impressed with the standard and organization of the competition. I want to commend The Nigerian Police Badminton Association led by Takyun for the job well done. I also want to say that the best Badminton players would be given all support and ensure that the players are recommended to Badminton Federation for national assignment,” he said.

In his own comment, Takyun said he was delighted that all the participating players and security agencies who participated at the just conclude Badminton tourney gave good account of themselves and also commended the members of the Badminton Association for working round the clock for the success of the competition.

“I must confess that this is the best among the tournaments organized in Ikeja Police College and I want to say that the maiden edition of IGP Badminton tourney was a huge success. It was a huge success because the game of badminton is gaining ground in The Nigerian Police Force. Secondly some players who took part in the tournament lived up to expectations in term of their performance and I believe that the players would continue to improve on their game,” he said.

Meanwhile Emmnauel Jospeh defeated Abel Joseph 2-0 to win the men singles open category final, while in the men singles police category final, Victor Ikechukwu humbled Owolabi Tobi 2-1 to emerge the champion

Gift items, medals and trophies were given the winners and players who were outstanding in the tournament.
