Lagos Open Darts Championship Will be Bigger Next Year -Aiyepeku

This is a new dawn for Darts community in Lagos State, as the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku has assured that the two-day Lagos State Open Darts Championship, which was held between Monday and Tuesday this week, would be made bigger and glamourous in the next edition in 2022.
The Open Darts Tournament, which was the first edition, was facilitated by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission and organised by Adegbenga Odofin-led Board of Lagos State Darts Association at the sports bar of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

Aiyepeku, who played the game to demonstrate his knowledge of the sport to the participating artists on Day One of the tournament, revealed that Darts was an instrumental part of Team Lagos’ performance at the recently held National Sports Festival in Edo State, adding that “Dart is already established as a creational sport in Nigeria, and I believe it can be taken to a competitive level for individuals, groups or clubs to play.”
According to Aiyepeku, the Lagos Open Darts Championship is the start of a new beginning in the association and it will propel to a bigger one next year.
Chairman, Lagos State Darts Association, Adegbenga Odofin, said the idea behind the staging of the Open was to harness and develop new talents and to keep records of the current athletes who are actively involved in the sport in the state.
“The aim of the association is to continue to grow Darts and change the narrative that Darts is a leisure sport.”
Odofin emphasised that the competition will serve as an avenue for the association to start its ranking in the state.
