Nigeria’s judo community at home and in the Diaspora has been in euphoric mood since last Friday when a prominent member gave birth to a pair of twins.
Adesuwa Omosefe (now Mrs Ogbebor), gave birth to twins (male and female) on Friday, January 28th, 2022, in the United States of America.
A national team mate of Adesuwa and former team captain, Kelvin Idehen broke the good news.
The arrival of the twins brought to an end over seventeen years of agonising wait of the judoka and her faithful husband, Mr. Friday Ogbebor.
Adesuwa Omosefe in her active days was a household name.
She was a member of the Golden Generation of Nigerian Judo.
She was a national champion dominating her 66kg weight category like a colossus.
Among her several judo laurels were two Commonwealth Championship medals which she clinched in Malta in 1994.
She picked silver in her 66kg weight category and bronze in the Open event.
In the 1995 All Africa Games hosted by Harare, Zimbabwe, Adesuwa was the national women team captain.
The former national judo queen has continued to play a part in Nigerian judo as a member of the influential Edo State judokas in the Diaspora, a group which supports the oriental sport and its practitioners in the country in several ways.
