Senator Tanko Al-Makura

Comrade Yahaya Majeed, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) in South-West Nigeria has described the decision of former Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to contest and become National Chairman of the APC in the upcoming National Convention as a good development that loyal and sincere members and leadership of the party must embrace.

Comrade Yahaya, who also doubles as South-West Chairman and National Vice Chairman  of All Progressives Youth Alliance (APYA), said the major youth  group in Nigeria deems it fit to mobilize support for Senator Tanko  Al- Makura because he is seen to be the round peg in the round hole,

The Osun State-born politician and former state executive member of the defunct Action Congress (AC)  and the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and APC said: “When you take into consideration the rough road our party has walked in the last five years and the outcome of recently held wards, local and state congresses in the party, you will agree with me that our great party needs a Chairman who will bring members of the party together and position it to win future elections.  If you are looking for a person with such capability and ability, Al-Makura is the answer.

“He stands out amongst others when it comes to a high level of humility and persuasive prowess to bring people together. He believes that as the monkey is working it must eat, meaning that all members of our great party shall eat the fruits of their labour. I must confess, this is the kind of person APC needs now to give assurance to the party members that they are not forgotten,” Comrade Yahaya said.

To Comrade Yahaya, the recently held congresses across the country in the APC might have produced factions in some states, this won’t affect the party’s chances in any future election.

“That is what Senator AL-Makura is coming to do and bet me in the shortest possible time, he will unite and harmonise all factions. I think his collective bargaining acumen is superb and that is one of the instruments he will be using to bring back APC family together,” he said.

He, however, said that even if the leadership of APC adopts consensus arrangement in picking the chairman of the party during the convention, he sees Al-Makura triumphant.

“I can assure you that consensus or no consensus, our Distinguish Senator Tanko Al-Makura will be the anointed candidate for the post of the National Chairman of our great party. Our leaders know that the party needs someone like AL-Makura to bring peace and harmonise the party, and AL-Makura is the answer to that.

“On our own part, all state, local and ward coordinators of APYAL have been mandated to be on the fields to ensure that irrespective of whatever method that will be adopted during the Convention, Senator Tanko Al-Makura shall emerge victoriously

Comrade Yahaya dismissed his ambition to contest for the National Youth Leader of the APC during the convention, adding that “the rumour has some elements of truth, but since I have carried this Al-Makura National Chairmanship project  I have reconsidered my decision and presently our team’s focus is on how our principal, Al-Makura will emerge as the National Chairman so that our party can continue with our winning streak in the Nigerian political arena.”
