Female Socialite Arrested For Buying N7m Toyota Venza Car With Fake Bank Cheque

A 44-year old female socialite, Mercy Ayanshola, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after she allegedly bought a 7m Toyota Venza car with a fake bank cheque and was caught in the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Mayfair Garden Estate, Ajah area of Lagos.
The embattled socialite, Mercy, was alleged to have obtained the 2014 model of Toyota Venza from the owner, Funmi Jerry and issued her a WEMA Bank cheque with leaflet number, 14598431 and the vehicle was released to her.without any suspicion.
However, when the owner took the cheque to the bank to cash out the expected value, it was not honoured for lack of funds in the account.
She was said to have deliberately done so because every effort to reach her failed, having received the vehicle into her custody.
The alleged fraud was reported to the Commissioner of Police, who ordered for the arrest of Mercy for interrogation. She was eventually trailed and arrested.
She was asked to refund or give a fresh cheque to the owner, which will be honoured by the bank but she said she did not have any money in the bank.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Adejumola Olusunkanmi, asked the Court for adjournment for hearing to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. R.A.Alejo, granted her bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum while she adjourned the matter till 24th March, 2022, for mention.
Meanwhile, she was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
