Ikorodu Agog As Bolowotan Declares Gold Cup Open
Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Alhaji Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan and other invited sports personalities would storm Ikorodu this afternoon to grace the opening match of 14th edition of Gold Cup taggged’Bolowotan Gold Cup’
The opening match would be played between Eazigo FC and Tab Vision FC at the Igbogbo Police Barrack football pitch, Ikorodu.
The competition which is sponsored by Bolowotan is organized by Ikorodu Divisional Football Association led by Alhaji Lukman Sonibare. 40 teams are expected to battle in the competition that would last for more than a month.
Addressing the journalists in Ikorodu, Sonibare said all arrangement have been put in place to organize a memorable opening ceremony saying that all the representatives of the participating teams would be on ground to add glamour to the competition.
He said the cup donor, Bolowotan who is celebrating his Birthday today and some invited guests would witness the opening match as cup donor would do the official kick off to herald the commencement of the tournament.
“We are set and all the teams are ready for the battle. Our cup donor, Alhaji Bolowotan would be in our midst today to declare the competition open. Presently Ikorodu is agog as many football fans, administrators and scouts from far and near are in Ikorodu town for the competition,” he said.
He however urged the participating teams to see the competition as friendly not a do or die affairs. He noted that the competition has name and it won’t be augur well to be characterized by violence.
Reacting on today’s game,.Eazigo manager, Harding John boasted that his boys in high spirit and they are ready to give their opponents a run for their money. He admitted that the match would be tough but remained optimistic that his team would come out victorious.
