Posted on February 14, 2022

Nigeria’s leading talk radio station, Nigeria Info, has announced the commencement of its second edition of the “I Beg To Differ” Student Debate Tournament.

This is in a bid to reiterate its commitment towards contributing to the growth of the Nigerian educational sector through the promotion of developmental initiatives aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with the required skills in order to develop sustainable-innovative solutions.

The competition, which is Nigeria’s only radio debate tournament for teens, is scheduled to commence in March 2022.

This will afford secondary school students across Lagos State between the ages of thirteen to seventeen the opportunity to develop the psychological abilities required to engage in intellectually-stimulating conversations on complex socio-economic and political issues affecting the nation’s corporate existence.

Speaking on the launch of the second episode of the competition, Serge Noujaim, the Chief Executive Officer of Cool FM, Wazobia FM, and Nigeria Info noted that the “I Beg To Differ” Student Debate Tournament seeks to create a platform for Nigerian youths to develop their public-speaking skills while also exercising their creativity through the English Language.

“We, as a brand, understand the crucial need to create an enabling platform that encourages Nigerian youths, particularly those in secondary schools, to develop their ability to communicate effectively. This is because we believe that the competition will help a large number of Nigerian youths to develop their creativity using the English Language as well as a means to improve their abilities to own constructive views on complex issues of national and global concern,” he said.

Complementing the statement of the CEO, Femi Obong-Daniels, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs for Cool FM, Wazobia FM, and Nigeria Info noted that Nigeria Info is at the forefront of championing diverse initiatives that seek to enhance youth development across the nation.

“We at Nigeria Info understand the need to contribute our quota towards youth development across the nation. This is because we understand that the youths are a critical part of the society that defines the overall success the nation achieves in terms of its growth and development. It is on this backdrop that we believe that the “I Beg To Differ” Student Debate Tournament is a platform designed to build future leaders that would contribute to the nation’s growth and development in no distant time,” he stated.

The “I Beg To Differ” Student Debate Tournament is one of the diverse youth-led initiatives of Nigeria Info that strives to develop the mental capacity of Nigerian students through the promotion of healthy debate competitions.
