Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti featuring one of the youngest judo squads in the NUGA Games wrote their names in gold on Monday.

And the school did so in grand style.

First timer at the Games, 16 year-old Kehinde Anyawale performed a giant-killing feat to put the much treasured gold in the kitty of EKSU.

Fighting at 52 kg, Ayanwale  was not given a snowball’s chance in hell against  Mercy Genesis of the all-conquering UNIPORT in pre-fight previews.

In her semi final fight, Ayanwale had defeated Gift Christian also of UNIPORT and it seemed she was bound to meet her waterloo in the final with another UNIPORT adversary.

However, the 100 level student of Geology tore the forecasters’ prediction into shreds with a convincing win against Mercy.

With the victory, Ayanwale earned the unofficial title of the “Nemesis of UNIPORT”.

The Sports Hall of UNILAG venue of the judo event erupted in celebration when Ayanwale’s hand was raised in victory.

She had” become the toast of the judo fans with her fighting technique which made her unstoppable in her march to gold.

With her gold, EKSU has surpassed its 2017 performance at the NUGA Games where it picked two bronze and a silver in Makurdi.

An excited Coach Akinwale Morakinyo said the gold medalist has a bright future in the game.

According to him “Kehinde is a very promising judoka with a great future ahead.

“In fact, Kehinde is like every other member of the EKSU Judo Team, they are all very disciplined and focused.

The future of Kehinde and her colleagues is very bright”.

The judo event at the NUGA Games will end today with team events and the grading of qualified judokas.
