A 40-year old man, Matthew Adeleke, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly engaging his neighbour’s 10-year old girl and defiling her in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oko Iya-Olosa Olainukan Street in Isawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Matthew, allegedly lured the girl to his apartment as he returned early from work and engaged her in a forceful sex romp.

Having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anybody what happened by instilling fear into her.
However, the girl had severe pains in her private part when she got home. And when she was unable to bear the trauma any longer, she reported what happened to her parents.

The parents then contacted the Police and the suspect, Matthew, was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation.

During interrogation, he admitted to have slept with the girl knowing fully that she is a minor but said that it was with her consent.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement.
The alleged dastardly act, which is a capital offence, attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice while the prosecutor was directed to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 5th May, 2022, for mention for the DPP’s report to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
