3rd Private School Games: Excitement Galore As Greensprings, Leadforte Grab Soccer Gold

It was excitement galore on Wednesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere as the third edition of Private School Games got underway.  

Greensprings and Leadforte both of Lagos stole the show on the opening day of the three day sports festival by winning the football gold medals.

In the final football game for boys, Greensprings pipped Leadforte by a lone goal to clinch the gold medal.

However, the girls of Leadforte School avenged the defeat their boys suffered by defeating the Greensprings girls 2-0. 

The Private School Games  is an annual event to boost sports development among schools in Lagos and Oyo States. 

According to the initiator of the project and chief executive of the School Games Ltd, Mr. Yemi Egbeoluwa; “Private School sports is about effectively combining sports with Education. 

“Apart from academic excellence, most private schools also have a lot of sporting talents waiting to be discovered”.

Mr. Egbeoluwa added that the Private School Sports was a platform to discover such talents that would become national and international stars in future.

“Today, we saw a lot of talents during the football games.

“There would be more talents to be discovered in the Athletics and Basketball events”, he enthused.

The athletics event will take place at the Agege Stadium on Thursday while  the closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

Mr Egbeoluwa appealed to the corporate world to assist his organisation in its task of building the youngsters into champions and leaders of tomorrow. 

Some of the schools participating in the Games include Corona, Greensprings , Leadforte, Riverbank , Middle Hall , Seedtime all of Lagos and Best Legacy of Oyo State.
