Un-numbered Motorcycles Pose Security Threat At FESTAC Town, Lagos

Residents of Festival Town of Arts and Culture, FESTAC Town, Lagos State, Nigeria, are now living in fear over the rising rate of un-numbered commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada plying the estate.

The residents see the operations of the okada riders as a security threat, while calling on security agencies to do the needful by apprehending the riders to help curb criminalities going on in the estate.

While recounting her near-death experience, a staff of a commercial Bank on Lagos Island, who does not want to be Identified disclosed said: “It was sometime last week I was on my way to the office, I decided to pick an okada, which has been what I do on a daily basis, but on this fateful day I was on the wrong bike, the rider suddenly stopped on a lonely road on 71 Road, brought a knife and asked me to surrender my valuables, I did that for me to be alive so that I can recount my experience, even in fear I attempted to see if I can get the number plate but it had none. ”

To curb the security challenges confronting the residents of the estate, the people are urging the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that they go after erring riders, while the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, AOLG, which collects money from the riders to ensure that all un-numbered motorcycles be made to off the roads.
