The standard of education may most likely continue to drop as the days go by in Lagos State following the attitude of some parents and the teachers to aid students in examination malpractices in Nigeria.
PM.EXPRESS reports that recently, the Police Intelligence team from Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, arrested a 28-year old female teacher, Olajiri Olaide, while she was solving WAEC questions for some students inside the school during an examination and she was caught in the act.
The incident happened on 21st June, 2022 at Emovet Junior and Secondary School, Ijedodo area of Ijegun, Lagos State, where the students sat for WAEC examinations.
The suspect, Olaide, was said to be inside a classroom while the students were in the exams hall; she and other teachers were busy solving the questions and sending the answers to the them.
While the dastardly act was going on, she was caught and handed over to the Police. She was was transferred to SCID, Yaba, for interrogation over the conduct. The Police however, did not disclose if the school management was part of the arrangement or not.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Yaba Magistrate Court.
The Police alleged Olaide to have conspired with others now at large to aid cheating in examination by solving the exams questions for the students so that they will pass.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, granted her bail and ordered her remand in Correctional Centre pending when she will perfect her bail conditions and adjourned the matter for mention.
