It was a nasty experience for Police officers at Akinpelu Division, Oshodi area of Lagos State after a suspected thief gained entrance during the day and stole an Android phone kept in the charge room while some officers were on duty.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened this September 2022 at the Police Station located at Bolade area of Oshodi, Lagos.
The ugly situation was said to have thrown officers on duty at the station into confusion over the alleged loss of the phone in broad daylight. It also caused serious embarrassment to the DPO and the senior officers as it exposed the porous security situation at the station.
The DPO was said to have been angered by the embarrassment and ordered the officers, who were on duty on that day to either find the phone or they will be liable and prosecuted.
The Police Officers then went into action and arrested a 45-year old man, Wahab Affez, who reportedly denied and stated that he had nothing to do with the missing phone.
The Police insisted and found him culpable. He was then charged before Ogba Magistrates Court for stealing.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Rachael Williams, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Akingbesote, granted Affez bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum while the matter was adjourned for mention and the defendant was remanded in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
While Affez was being taken to the prison custody, he insisted that he was innocent and claimed that he was wrongly accused and brought to the Court for what he did not commit.
