A Police Inspector attached to Ejigbo Division, in Lagos State, Abdullahi Teneen, will not forget 25th September, 2022, in a hurry when he went to enforce the ban on motorcycle operators and he had a nasty experience.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Inspector Teneen was brutally attacked and battered by an angry Okada rider, Salisu Usman, for attempting to seize his bike and injured him seriously in the process.
The incident happened at NNPC Road, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where Teneen accosted Usman on the highway.
When Inspector Teneen accosted him to ride his bike to the Police Station for onward movement to the Oshodi terminal of the Task Force where seized motorcycles are taken for permanent seizure, Usman was said to have pleaded with him but he refused. He then grabbed him, attacked and gave him fist blows on his right eye and he became confused before his colleague came to his rescue and took him to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Usman was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his conduct. He admitted to have insulted him after begging him and he refused insisting that he will seize his bike.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for assault.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K.Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 26th October, 2022, for mention.
