A socio-political group operating in the three Senatorial districts of Cross River State, Ikom Women Mandate, has explained why it supports the Cross River State PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 election, Senator Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor.
Speaking with journalists in Ikom, Leader of Ikom Women Mandate, Dr. Mrs Nchajeno Otabo Owan, mni, stated that the group decided to support Onor after going through his track record, and concluded that he is the only one with capacity to lead the state.
Owan who spoke shortly after the crowd of women supporters gathered in Ikom, said, “Sandy’s love for widows is one of the attributes that endeared me to him.
“Can’t you see the crowd of colourful women? The crowd of women you see here are not the hired or rented crowd  but women of substance who by all indications had shown commitment in the project Sandy.
“We are not like others who parade themselves with hired crowd. Ours is made up of women of integrity and proven record, who are passionately willing to go extra length to ensure that Sandy emerges as state governor. I believe Sandy has 100% chances of sweeping the polls.
“His character, pedigree, trust, with proven integrity, have never left any one in doubt that he has capacity to lead the state. Right from the days when he served as Chairman, Etung LG Council, even as senator, he has never given us cause to doubt him.”
Continuing, she said “I don’t think there is any other individual that is more qualified for the job than Senator Sandy.”
She said the group is rallying behind Sandy and Emana, adding that the group’s aims and objectives are to galvanise and mobilie Ikom women to intensify support for Onor and Emana.
Nchajeno, who is a former permanent secretary with Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs said, “We want to shout out to the whole world that our vote is our power.”
Speaking earlier, the state PDP Women Leader, Mrs Florence Inyang, who represented the PDP state deputy governorship candidate, Emana Duke, stated that a time had come when the women had to work together and ensure that their own Emana emerges as state deputy governor.
