Pity Chekwas Okorie — He Lacks The Ability For Growth

Chekwas Okorie has learnt nothing from history, and this is quite disturbing for a man who should rank among the Fathers of Nigeria’s modern democracy. Pitching tent with con artists, who are on a self imposed rudderless political sojourn is one sure anti climax for a Chekwas, who has, in the last 15 years, been in search of political salvation.
The question then is, who is preying on Chekwas’ vulnerability? Truly, Chekwas is not a good gambler. The legendary Kenny Rogers noted in his vintage song that “every gambler knows that the secret to surviving is knowing what to throw in and knowing what to keep”. In this instance Chekwas is oblivious that he has thrown in everything, including residues of his gnarled political capital.
At every point in Chekwas’ political history he has always been the victim of his own contrivances and unclear thinking. This has left him helpless in ways that analysts have asked “is Chekwas cursed or is he the cause?” Either ways, his trajectory has proven to be the identikit face of evil wherein respite is everything but close.
Here is a Chekwas Okorie, who lost control of his own creation over 18 years ago. Today, this creation has grown into an entity bigger than his contemplation, going through stages of turmoil and coming out stronger after each episode. What Chekwas and his co-travelers are unaware of is that APGA as a Party is like the phoenix that rises from its own ashes. Quite interestingly, Chekwas has tried many other political experiments that has perpetually left him despondent. His last was with UPP where the whole charade died almost immediately it was conceived. What this shows is that the man Chekwas lacks the capacity and divine enablement to “grow” anything. Not even his personal life. Thus, he has, in this last kick of a dying horse turned to local “yahoo-yahoo” politicians who have guaranteed him that this third “lame child will walk soon”. If not for desperation and serial amnesia can someone tell me why Chekwas is unable to decipher that he is been used to give credence to a legal heist and social abomination.
Chekwas risks deleting whatever is left of his goodwill in political history if he continues to allow fraudulent elements like Njoku and Co. to lead him on in this journey to ignominy. This is still the morning of Chekwas’ last phase of political appearance, there may not be another for him when the fat lady begins to sing.
