Two suspected traffic robbers, Basiru Babawu,18 and Nura Muhammad, 21, have reacted after being nabbed over the use of toy gun in Lagos State by telling Police that they only used it to harass their target during operations.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were arrested by the Police operatives from Ejigbo Division at Jakande Estate by NEPA Bus Stop in Ejigbo, while on routine monitoring in the area.
They were accosted at about 7.00 pm at a dark spot and were searched by the Police, who discovered that they were in possession of the toy gun. The Police immediately arrested and detained them at the station for interrogation.
During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to have used it only to intimidate victims but did not use it to harm them.
However, their explanation did not save them as the Police found them culpable.
They were subsequently charged before Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and being in possession of the toy gun.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a short adjournment for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offences.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
They were later remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 5th December, 2022, for mention.
