Ladele Promises Exciting Future Tourney, As 2022 Legacy Volleyball Championship Ends

The improved standard of organisation of the just concluded 2022 Legacy Volleyball Championship has given the organisers the impetus to see a bright future for the competition and indeed the game in the country.

Basking in the euphoria of a successful competition where 20 teams participated at both the Teslim Balogun Stadium and the National Stadium in Surulere, President of Nigeria Sitting Volleyball Federation, Mr Olukayode Ladele, who headed the organising committee of the weeklong event, said the take home from the 6th edition is that the organisers improved on the organisation of the tourney for it to meet up with international standard of any volleyball championship being staged across the world.

“We took the pains to ensure that the tournament this year met the international standard expected of any volleyball competition. The tournament and its ambience were a feel of international arena at home for our players and officials, as well as spectators. This is a kind of thing we need to develop the game of volleyball in the country,” said Ladele, who is also the Chairman of Legacy Volleyball Club, Lagos.

The head of the organising committee of the tournament disclosed that since inception, Legacy Volleyball Championship has added value to the game in Nigeria.

According to him, the competition witnessed technical officials from the Volleyball Federation of Nigeria for them to have a fell and close-marked budding players who can be drafted to the national teams.

“I can tell you that many of the players who had featured in this competition have made their ways to the national teams and they are doing great for the country. This is our joy that what we are doing is affecting our game positively,” Ladele said.

In the third-place match, Offa defeated Lekki team 3-0 in the male category, while Dynamics from Abuja got the best out the host team, Legacy 3-2 in the female game.

The final in the women’s category was won by Offa after they walloped the Elites team 3-1 in the match watched by the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Oluwatoyin Gafaar and other dignitaries inside the sports hall of the National Stadium.

One million Naira was earmarked for the winners in different categories, while the first and second runners-up went home with N500,000 and N300,000 respectively.

Prizes were also given to Best Spiker, Most Valuable Player and Best-Behaved team in the event spanning seven days.
