Jay Newton also known as “Prophet EJ Newton” a US based Nigerian singer-songwriter, producer and minister has funded the acquisition and donation of basic essentials and relief materials to refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in settlements and camps in Abuja and Benue State, Nigeria.

The donations were made under the auspices of His Great Grace Ministries foundation.

Jay also informed our reporter that the foundation has put structures in place to make this an annual outreach that will take place every January prior to his birthday.

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, disclosed that there are 27 Internally Displaced Persons camps in the state.

Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Emmanuel Shior, who made the disclosure in Makurdi, explained that the camps comprised seven official and 20 unofficial camps scattered across the state.

“According to the News Agency of Nigeria reports, women in Internally Displaced Persons camps in Benue State delivered 200 babies in 2022.”

Speaking remotely via zoom from his base in the United States, Prophet EJ said that arrangements are already in place via partner organizations on ground to distribute these materials to IDP camps in Lugbe and Area one zones of Abuja and in Benis state to help mitigate economic hardship and harsh conditions they face in the rehabilitation settlements and IDP camps.

Some of the donated amenities included groceries like bags of rice, salt and garri, tubers of yam, cartons of noodles, disposable wipes and diapers, baby food and sanitary pads for girls/women.

Despite the efforts of non governmental organizations, individuals and governments, families and children who are living as refugees in IDP camps are living in dire circumstances.
