Wura, Showmax’s first Nigerian Original Telenovela, Now Streaming
The wait is finally over. Showmax’s first Nigerian Original telenovela, Wura, is now available to stream.
The 260-episode series is set against the backdrop of the gold mining industry in Osun State.
The show stars a variety of seasoned Nollywood actors including Yomi Fash-Lanso as Anthony Amoo-Adeleke, Carol King as Grace Adeleke, and Lanre Adediwura as Olumide Kuti, with up-and-coming movie star Scarlet Gomez playing the lead as Wura.
Other cast include Nollywood stars Ray Adeka as Jejeloye “Jeje” Amoo, Iremide Adeoye as Lolu Adeleke, Ego Iheanacho as Iyabo Kuti, and Martha Ehinome as Tumininu “Tumi” Kuti.
The show centres on Wura-Amoo Adeleke, a perfect wife, a caring mother of two, and the cunning CEO of the fictional Frontline Gold Mine. Wura lives a double life – as an “iron lady” when managing her business empire, and as a faultless and devout woman before her family.
The series also depicts the reality of the Iperindo Community, surrounded by enormous wealth from precious metals yet progressively falling into poverty. Despite being a work of fiction, the show touches on a few pressing issues in Iperindo and its surrounding communities.
In the warm-up to the show’s launch, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, played host to members of the Wura cast and crew in his palace on Thursday, January 19.
The Ooni, his wives, Olori Tobi Philips Ogunwusi, Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi and Wura stars Scarlet Gomez, Yomi Fash-Lanso and Ego Iheanacho, along with other members of the cast and crew, were present at the screening.
Wura is the Nigerian adaptation of the award-winning South African telenovela, The River.
