Organisers Set For Taiwo Afolabi Preliminary Matches In Ogun

The much awaited 7th edition of U-17 Taiwo Afolabi boys & girls Southwest preliminaries football competition would kick off on 4, February, 2023 at the Gateway International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

In the boys category fixtures released by the organisers,the opening match would be played between Adeoba FC from Ijebu-Ode against Dragon FC from Abeokuta.

Action continues on Sunday when All Stars FC from Ibadan tackle Giwa FC from Oyo as Mighty Stars from Shagamu battle Fountain FC from Ilaro in the second match of the day.

Cordinator of Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association, Taofeek Ajibola said the competition was organised as part of the programmes lined up for the birthday celebrant, Barrister Taiwo Afolabi who doubles as the cup donor of the tournament.

Ajibola said the closing and final ceremony would hold on 29th April at the Campos sports center, Lagos Island.

Before the final ceremony, Ajibola said 16 teams from both boys and girls would qualify from Ijebu-Ode zone and join 16 qualified teams in Lagos making 32 teams that would battle for the honours.

“We are starting our preliminary matches next month in Ijebu-Ode zone and only 16 teams would qualify from both boys and girls to join already 16 teams in Lagos.

“The round of 32 would commence in Lagos to determine who would reach the final stage.The cup donor who is the Chief Executive Officer of Sifax Group wants the competition to involve teams in southwest states and that is the reason we are starting the preliminary matches next month,”he said.

Ajibola also commended the cup donor for his commitment to the football development not only in Lagos but southwest at large and prayed that God should give him good health to celebrate more years in life time.
