A 54-year old man, John Okoebor, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he allegedly lured an 11-year old girl and inserted his finger into her private part and he was caught.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at CMD Residential Quarters in Shangisha, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the victim into his apartment, forcefully removed her pants and inserted his finger into her private part. And having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go but warned her not to tell anyone about it.
However, the victim was said to have told her parents and the matter was reported to the Police in the area. He was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over the alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for statutory rape, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is found guilty before the Court.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 20th March, 2023, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
