Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation, Jake Otu-Enyia, has said that the Obudu International Passenger and cargo airport would be ready for commissioning before May 29 this year.

He stated this on Wednesday at a media briefing in Calabar.

According to him, “80 percent of the project has been completed,” adding that the project cost the state N37bn.

He said the aviation sector will be the economic hub of the state, adding that the am sector is catalyst for economic development, especially tourism.

Otu-Enyia said the ministry has carried out its mandate by establishing a government owned airline, Cally Air, and the Obudu International Passenger and cargo airport.

He said the state handed over the running of the airline to Aero Contractors because it has not acquired the Airline Operator’s Certificate and that it would take full charge after it had acquired the certificate.

He said a third aircraft would be acquired for Cally Air, adding that the airline would create employment opportunities for many and that it would be a major revenue earner for the state.

“The sector has changed the story of Cross River State,” he said.
