A 20-year-old apprentice, Josiah Godwin, is in trouble for allegedly killing his boss, Saviour Joseph, for smashing his mobile phone as he dumped his corpse inside a water well and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Imafon town, Akure South Local Government Area in Ondo State, where they reportedly went to work on a site.
He was alleged to have committed the dastardly act after the deceased boss smashed his phone over an undisclosed disagreement and threw the corpse inside a water well before the act got exposed after four days when the corpse floated from the well after he had denied knowing the whereabout of the deceased.
The matter was reported to the Police; he was arrested and detained for interrogation.
After thorough investigation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Akure Magistrates Court for the alleged murder.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Folasade Adeyemi, told the Court that the suspect was charged on two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, the offences contravene Sections 269 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State Nigeria 2006.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor prayed the Court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the issuance of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and his counsel, Friday Adeoye, did not object to the remand application issued by the prosecutor.
The Presiding Magistrate, Idowu Mayowa, granted the application and ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for.
The matter was adjourned till 17th March, 2023, for the legal advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
