A 27-year old welder, Olusegun Osowe, who escaped from prison custody after he was convicted has been rearrested and sentenced to three years imprisonment for his escape.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Philip Akinlosetu, of Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.
The convict, Osowe, was rearrested and brought before the Court on a three-count charge bordering on felony, breach of peace and unlawful escape from the Correctional Centre. He was said to have committed another offence, which he was found culpable for by the Court and sentenced.
However, having stayed for a while, he dislodged the prison officials, escaped and all efforts to locate him proved abortive until he was arrested recently.
He pleaded guilty when he was arraigned.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, had earlier told the Court that another Court of competent jurisdiction had convicted and sentenced the jail bird to two years imprisonment for burglary and stealing on 22nd October, 2022.
Inspector Omoyeigha told the Court that the convict had escaped from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre before he was re-arrested and re-arraigned for felony, on the offences contravened Sections 135, 249(d) and 18(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The Court found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
