Afolabi Cup: Organisers Excited As Teams Live Up To Expectations

Organisers of the 7th editions of U-17 Taiwo Afolabi boys & girls Southwest preliminaries football competition have expressed their delight over the performance of participating teams since competition kicked off 18, February, 2023 at the Ijebu-Ode International Stadium,Ogun State.
The competition is sponsored by chairman Sifax Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi (MON), as part of the programmes lined up to mark his birthday scheduled for April.
Cordinator of Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association, Taofeek Ajibola commended the teams for adhering to the rules and regulations saying that all the matches played so far had lived up to expectations.
“Let me commend those teams that are participating in the Taiwo Afolabi both male and female categories.They have done well in their performance and they have done well in their conduct both on and off the pitch.
“I also want to use this medium to urge the remaining teams in the competition to continue keeping the rules and regulations till we would finish the tournament,”he said.
Ajibola explained that only eight teams would qualify from southwest preliminary stage to join round of 32 teams from Lagos state.
The round of 32 according to the organizers would commence on Saturday 18th March in boys categories,while the girls categories would be played on 25th, March at the Apogbon sports center.
In some matches played so far, Adeoba defeated Dragon FC 2-1, Giwa pip Mighty Stars 1-0, Sunder Rain lost 2-3 to Sunshine Feeders, while Gateway Feeders humbled Olanipekun Babes 4-2,
In other results, Omolubi lost 0-1 to Crown Babes,Afe Babes suffered 1-3 to Onward, Agoye played goalless draw with Durosimi, Awosika also lost 1-2 to Super Soccer,while prime feeders thrashed Lighter Rain 3-0 as Biodun FC beat Dorban 2-1.
Some matches would be postponed due to the presidential elections scheduled for Saturday, 25, February, 2023.
