A 42-year old man, Sunday Obasuyi, has landed in trouble for allegedly selling his 82-year old father, Michael Obusuyi, for N1.8m to a native doctor for ritual purposes as he was murdered and buried in a shallow grave.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 1st February, 2023, at about 11am in Agbado-Ekiti, Gbonyin LGA, of Ekiti State and the man’s corpse was later discovered weeks after the incident.
The suspect, Sunday, has been arrested by the Police and charged before the Ekiti State Magistrates Court for conspiracy and murder.
He was remanded alongside two other persons one Akinniyi (51) and Bobafe Sunday, 51, who is the native doctor, for kidnapping and killing the octogenarian.
The Presiding Magistrate, Bankole Okuwasanmi, ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, had told the Court  that the first defendant, Sunday Obasuyi, conspired with Akinniyi and sold his father for N1.8million to the third defendant, Bobafe Sunday, who is a native doctor.
He stated that the alleged offences contravened Sections 280, 279 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if they are found guilty before the Court.
However, they were remanded in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
