A 27-year old man, Victor Ogah, who was alleged to have burnt Akere Spare Parts Market and murdered a night guard in Olodi Apapa, has been charged before Yaba Magistrates Court.
P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect was arraigned before the Court for the alleged arson and murder in the state.
He was arrested by the Commissioner of Police Special Squad (CPSS) after the market was burnt on 8th March, 2023 and all the goods inside the shops worth millions of Naira were destroyed by fire.
This happened few days before the election, which caused serious tension during the electoral process over the action of the hoodlums.
The Police were said to have moved into action to unmask those behind the act, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Ogah, while his other accomplices are still at large.
He was detained and interrogated over the alleged arson and murder and after thorough interrogation, the Police found Ogah culpable.
He was subsequently charged before the Court for conspiracy,  arson and murder, which attracts life imprisonment if found guilty.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Rita Momah, asking the Court to give a date and refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Chief Adeola Olatubosun, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
