A 27-year old man, Idris Umai, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly conspiring and abducting a 17-year old student, who was coming back from school and taking her to his house, where he engaged her in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Umai, has been arrested for abduction and defilement of the girl.
The incident happened at the suspect’s house at Sanusi Estate, Mile 12 area of Ketu, Lagos.
Having satisfied himself after the romp, he allowed the girl to go. She went home and informed her parents about what happened. Her parents went to the  Police and reported that Umai had abducted the girl and defiled her in the process.
Thus, the Police arrested and subsequently charged him before the Ogudu Magistrate’s Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Donjour Perezi, told the Court that Umai committed the offence at the estate close to the girl’s house on her way back from school.
”The defendant conspired with one Faziya Abubakar, Mohammed Motali, Abubakar Mohammed, Amina Aminu and Aisha Ibrahim all of Mile 12 area to abduct the girl,” he said.
He stated that the alleged offence, which Umai committed, contravened the provisions of Sections 173 and 268 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody pending the outcome of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The matter was adjourned till 5th May, 2023, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
