A 67-year old landlady, Mrs. Iyabo Odumosu, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly breaking into her tenant’s apartments, packing out his properties and stealing N500,000 from the apartment.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the landlady, Mrs. Odumosu, has been arrested for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, illegal election and stealing.
The incident happened at Adeyemi Street, Daramola area of Orisumbare, Shasha, Lagos State, where the tenant, Femi Odetogun, rented an apartment.
According to the Police, the landlady had a disagreement with the complainant, who is her tenant and she asked him to pack out without giving him proper notice to quit. The tenant ignored and told her that if she wanted him to move out from the apartment, she should serve him proper quit notice.
However, on 4th April, 2023, the landlady reportedly broke into the apartment early in the morning and forcefully packed out all the properties inside the apartment and took possession.
The tenant later came, saw what happened, went to the Police and reported the matter. The landlady was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her conduct.
During interrogation, she admitted to have done so because the house belonged to her and she asked him to move out but he refused.
The Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted her bail on self recognition with other conditions that she will meet and adjourned the matter till 4th May, 2023, for mention.
