Imo: When Protus Sounds Pontus

OGU BUNDU NWADIKE, M.A

For us, that work of art by Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma, which he helplessly chose to entitle “When will Imo State regain her Sight?” was an expression of a fighter’s surrender, a worker’s resignation or retirement, etcetera.
After patiently and critically studying the piece, we saw the hand of Protus, heard the voice of Nathan, and contemplated on the psychological state of Uzoma.
All we distilled and deciphered from the article was the heart and hand of a depressed mind, who seemed to be set to signal his side to throw in the towel to accept a technical knockout, tko, in the realm of the unending and indeed endless discourse in the political realities of the metamorphosis of Imo State.
Pitiably, Protus proudly postulated propositions that he wittingly or unwittingly posted and scored himself low in sustainable processing of daily issues that engage egg heads and pundits, analysts and commentators on issues of State.
Arrogating to himself the role of the blind woman in Aesop’s fantasy fables, Protus confessed that though he could partially use his sight, but now he uncertainly states that he has lost his sense of sight, and can’t see anything new in Imo State.
According to Protus, quoting the blind woman, “When my eyes were bad I could at any rate see well enough to be aware that my house contained a certain amount of furniture and other things; but now, when according to him I am cured, I am entirely unable to see anything there at all”!
The connectivity between the trite blind tale in Aesop’s Fable and Imo State in the Protus confessed blindness was expressed thus:
“The case of Imo State cannot be over emphasized because we have seen with our eyes, but we cannot talk because we all live in fear of talking. Now that we are cured of the” “blindness” we have discovered that _this_ _administration_ is out to do the usual”!
Incidentally, Protus only replayed his old songs of hatred and malice against the sitting governor and his government, and he confessed as much.
“Those who misunderstood my critical mind have called me names. They say I criticize any government for pecuniary purpose”.
And without much recourse to undue and even unnecessary equivocation, we’ll confirm that we count among those that believe that Protus criticizes every governor and government of the day for pecuniary purposes; at least for his own personal pleasure of rendering mindless and misguided criticisms.
For instance, when Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was the short time unlawful, illegal and illegitimate governor of Imo State, Protus took swipes at him in peace time, which necessitated our reaction, response and reply, no matter how small.
Now, with Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, serving as the sitting Executive Governor of Imo State, Protus has come out boldly to say that he sees nothing different with the current administration vis-a-vis the previous administrations.
Attempting to instigate Ndimo to turn literally blind like him and abuse their governor with insults like him, Protus argued thus:
“In as much as I am aware of the common fact that Imo people are not worth dying for because they do not know what they want, they simply do what they are hypnotized to do. Well, they should not be blamed because going by certain things, Imo needs deliverance. Not even the critic can deliver Imo. Oh! When will Imo regain her sight? “
Yes. Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma pointedly wrote and widely published all of the above quoted excerpts from his rate he very offensive verbal ejaculation.
It’s sad and unfortunate that in the face of all the innumerable people-oriented programmes and projects that Governor Uzodimma has continued to provide for welfare and well-being of Ndimo, Protus decided to sound like Pontus Pilate who, though he knew the truth, kept asking to be shown the truth as if he were truly blind.
At least, Protus must have travelled on Orlu-Owerri Road or Owerri-Orlu Road to his Njaba country home.
Why wasn’t Protus humble enough to ask those with eyes and sight who were conveying him to his Njaba country home, where was this road that was as smooth new rug carpet.
If Protus has lost his sense of sight, has he also lost his sense of sound? If he can’t see, can’t he hear the positive testimonies the world is tendering about Governor Uzodimma’s wonderful, first of its kind, pure performance, achievements and accomplishments?
Let somebody and some people close to Protus, wherever he’s ensconced, tell him that the blind are seeing and the deaf are hearing that Governor Uzodimma has continually transformed since 2020 when he assumed office as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma was once upon a time a deputy governor candidate in a gubernatorial election in the State. But he evaporated like a flash in the pan, and has been antagonizing other politicians that have patiently and steadfastly continued to hold the fort amid the political foibles of the State.
Protus fought and ran away, but has refused to appear on the marks to. Run again. But the English say: “He fights and runs away lives to fight another day”! Parody: “He who runs and runs away, lives to run another day”!
Truth is that Imo State has a very good sight! A further truth is that Ndimo can see clearly now! Hence, while the mute State speaks volumes about Governor Uzodimma’s great achievements and accomplishments, the speaking Imolites, who have sight and tongue, are daily tell the tales of the governor’s acumen and capacity in good leadership and good governance deliveries.
It’s really sad and unfortunate that people you thought were honest and sincere about their professed knowledge and understanding, fail you with utterances that betray what you thought they knew and understood.
Whoever thought that a Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma would one day be declaring publicly that the same Governor Uzodimma he eulogized and lifted high in the not too distance past, would in the very near present be attacking and tackling the same Governor Uzodimma with abuses and insults?
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Protus stretched out his shaky, untrustworthy hands to strike Ndimo, the apples of Governor Uzodimma’s eyes, with the abuse and insult of not knowing what they want, but doing only what they were hypnotized to do!
In a very simple sentence, Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma goofed big time again with his latest efforts at criticism. He rendered destructive criticism as usual!
Unlike, the other time, Protus said Prof. Wole Soyinka came to his defence and rescue, when he delivered one of usual caustic, vindictive and destructive criticisms, this time around, Wole Soyinka will simply ask him, “Protus, why?”
Anyhow, freedom of speech and expression is very much constitutional. We’ll only assume that what the questionable claimant to highest height of academic achievement and accomplishment has done is to seek Governor Uzodimma’s attention, which we believe he could have done successfully without opting for the low of direct abuse and insult on the number one citizen of Imo State!
Imo State and Imo people are now seeing near and far, with Governor Uzodimma having used good leadership and good governance to heal age long cataract and glaucoma among Ndimo.
Governor Uzodimma has healed Ndimo of their myopia and metropia of yore, when bad leadership and bad governance combined to blindfold Ndimo, and they were taken undue advantage of! Imo State has regained her sight!
By God’s grace, Imo State is being recovered, reconstructed and rehabilitated by Governor Uzodimma!
Always expect the best from Governor Uzodimma!
