A 34-year old man, John Agbo, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 6-year old girl by inserting his finger into her private part in order to satisfy his sexual desires.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ogunsanya Street, Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, where they reside.
The suspect, John, has been charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if found guilty.
The Police alleged that he lured the girl into his apartment and engaged her in the dastardly act by removing her pants and inserting his finger into her private part.
However, he landed in trouble following the revelation by the girl and the matter was reported to the Police; he was then arrested and detained for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him accordingly.
The Police prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2022, which is punishable under Section 2641 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The charge read, “That you, John Agbo, sometime in the year 2022, at No. 9, Ogunsanya Street, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did sexually penetrate a six-year old girl by inserting your finger inside her vagina and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015″.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned after the prosecutor asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Hence, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till 30th May, 2023, for mention for the DPP’s report to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
