Tenant, 46, In Trouble For Battering Landlady Over Electricity Bills

A 45-year old tenant, Usman Hammed, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly battering his landlady, Mrs. Josephine Durodola over electricity bills.
 
P.M.EXPRESS reports the incident happened on 8th April, 2023 at about 9pm, on Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos, where they reside.
The tenant, Hammed, has been arraigned before the Ogudu Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for the the alleged assault.
According to the Police, the landlady was alleged to have demanded for electricity bill from the tenant, which did not go down well with him and it led to the exchange of words. In the process, the tenant reportedly grabbed the landlady and beat her up.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area. He was then arrested and charged before the Court for his alleged unruly conduct.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence by assaulting the complainant, Mrs. Josephine Durodola, when she demanded money from him for the payment of an electricity bill.
He told the Court that the defendant hit the complainant’s head against an iron gate, which caused her great pain and she was hospitalised where she is being treated due to the injury she sustained during the attack.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is found guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The matter was adjourned till 16th May, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
